A devastating tragedy has emerged in a Gaza hospital as a doctor lost nine of her children to airstrikes.

On May 24, CNN reported that Dr. Alaa al-Najjar, a 38-year-old Palestinian pediatrician, received the bodies of seven children at the emergency room of Nasser Medical Complex in southern Gaza, where she works. The children were victims of Israeli airstrikes.

These were Najjar’s children who had been at home. According to Gaza Civil Defense, an Israeli airstrike hit Najjar’s house, resulting in the deaths of seven of her children, aged between 3 and 12 years old.

As airstrikes continued into the morning, the bodies of two other children – a two-year-old and a seven-month-old – were discovered in the rubble. Najjar lost nine of her ten children in this attack. Her only surviving child, an 11-year-old son, was severely injured. Her husband, also a doctor, is in critical condition in the intensive care unit.

Munir al-Barsh, Director General of the Gaza Ministry of Health, shared the names of the nine deceased children on social media, stating that it is the reality that medical staff in Gaza are enduring and that the pain is beyond words.

Despite this unimaginable loss, Najjar continues to work in the hospital’s emergency room, monitoring the conditions of her husband and surviving son.
