Delta Sets the Bar: Only Airline on Fortune’s Best Workplaces List

Delta Air Lines announced on Monday that it ranked 15th on Fortune magazine’s 100 Best Companies to Work For list, marking its sixth consecutive year on the roster. Delta Air Lines was the only airline to make the list.

​Delta CEO Ed Bastian attributed the recognition to the dedication of Delta’s workforce, stating that all Delta employees should be incredibly proud of this acknowledgment. He emphasized that for 100 years, their people have set the airline apart and been the foundation of what makes Delta a great workplace, and they will continue to propel the company forward into the century.

The 100 Best Companies to Work For list is an annual survey conducted by the global workplace culture authority Great Place to Work. The survey evaluates organizations based on comprehensive employee feedback.

Delta’s high ranking stems from its employee-centered corporate culture and commitment to fostering a supportive work environment. The 2024 Great Place to Work Trust Index survey, which randomly sampled about 25,000 Delta employees in the U.S., underscored the airline’s century-long reputation as an exemplary workplace.

​Allison Ausband, Delta’s Executive Vice President and Chief People Officer, emphasized the significance of the company’s commitment to investing in employees throughout their careers, from hiring to retirement. She explained that when employees feel valued and cared for, they can be fully present each day, enabling them to empathize with customers and provide the exceptional care that distinguishes Delta as more than just an airline, but as a beloved brand.

Delta’s profit-sharing system has garnered particular attention. This February, the company distributed a total of 1.4 billion USD to its global workforce. The GPTW survey revealed that 80% of Delta employees believe they receive a fair share of company profits, significantly outpacing the 68% response average among other top companies.

​Michael Bush, CEO of Great Place to Work US, commended Delta Air Lines and CEO Bastian for their people-first approach and investments in technology and human capital. He highlighted that, despite a challenging year, Delta achieved the largest score increase and the most significant placement improvement in the history of the Fortune 100 Best Companies to Work For list, rising from 94th to 15th place.
