A recent report by the UK’s Daily Mail warns that we should all be checking for suspicious stains or indentations before using toilet paper in public restrooms, as it turns out those mysterious marks could be traces of needles used for injecting illegal drugs.
In a viral TikTok video, a user held up toilet paper found in a public restroom and pointed out small stains, claiming they were left behind by drug users cleaning their dirty needles.
The TikToker addressed those struggling with addiction directly while holding up the toilet paper covered in indentations and peppered with tiny green or brown stains. : “You need to realize you’re putting others at risk when you use public restrooms for this.”
Many users commented that they had never seen such stains before and would never use the public restroom again.
Health experts are backing up these social media warnings, claiming that these little marks could indeed be blood from contaminated needles, potentially exposing users to viral diseases. Dr. Sarmed Mezer, a UK physician and influencer, weighed in on the issue. “While it’s rare for viruses to spread through toilet paper, it’s not impossible,” he cautioned. He advised that people should start carrying their toilet paper when using the public restroom to be safe.
