A woman with a tongue thicker than a tennis ball has entered the Guinness World Records (GWR).
On Sunday, Guinness World Records announced that Ambra Collina, a 37-year-old Italian woman, earned a spot in the record book as the woman with the largest tongue circumference. Collina managed to inflate her tongue to 13.83 cm (5.44 in), surpassing the previous 13.2 cm (5.2 inches) set earlier this year by American woman Jenny DuVander.
Collina decided to take on this challenge after seeing a photo of Dante Barnes, an American male who had set a record in 2022 for his thick tongue.
She explained that inflating her tongue was a party trick to amuse her friends, but after realizing it could be a potential Guinness World Record, she was inspired to take on the challenge.
Collina expressed her pride in joining Guinness World Records, stating, “I have always followed the protagonists of the Guinness World Records books with admiration, and it would make me proud to imagine being part of it.”
When she applies force, Collina’s tongue can expand to exceed the size of a ping-pong ball (approximately 12.5 cm). Following GWR guidelines, she was measured three times and achieved an average measurement of 13.83 cm, earning her the title of the woman with the largest tongue in the world.
Meanwhile, Sacha Feiner from Belgium holds the record for the male with the largest tongue. Last October, American Braydon McCullough inflated his tongue to 6 cm, breaking Feiner’s previous record of 14.73 cm (5.8 inches). Piner then researched ways to inflate his tongue further and reclaimed his title in June with a measurement of 17 cm (6.7 inches).
