Tesla Might Block iPhones Due to OpenAI Integration

On June 10, Apple unveiled its new AI system, Apple Intelligence, at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC2024), held at its headquarters in Cupertino, California.

Elon Musk, Tesla’s CEO, has hinted that he might ban the use of iPhones in his company. This announcement comes as Apple plans to incorporate OpenAI’s ChatGPT into iPhones.

On June 10, Musk expressed his concerns via his X account, stating, “The partnership between Apple and OpenAI is an unacceptable security breach.” He further criticized Apple, implying that if they weren’t smart enough to create their own AI, how could they claim that OpenAI could protect users’ security and personal information?

Musk emphasized that Apple and OpenAI could not protect users’ information, stating, “We have no idea what’s happening.”

During WWDC2024, Apple announced it would incorporate OpenAI’s ChatGPT into its voice assistant, Siri. While Apple assured users that their information with Siri would be secure, Musk disputed this claim.

Musk expressed his concern about Apple integrating its operating system with OpenAI, stating that he would completely ban the use of Apple devices, including iPhones, at his company. He added that visitors to his company would be checked to see if they were using any Apple devices at the entrance.

Musk’s remarks are interpreted as partially influenced by his hatred towards Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI.

In 2015, Musk co-founded OpenAI with Altman and others. However, he resigned from the board in 2018 and divested all of his investment shares.

Following this, Musk heavily criticized OpenAI when it launched ChatGPT in 2022 and pioneered the generative AI market. He took issue with OpenAI’s for-profit business and ChatGPT’s political bias.

In 2023, Musk declared that he would develop a “truth-seeking” AI in response to OpenAI and even established an AI startup, xAI.

In February 2024, Musk filed a lawsuit against OpenAI and Altman, demanding they cease their for-profit activities and open-source their AI technology.

As of 2023, Musk’s companies include Tesla, SpaceX, Neuralink, X, and xAI. Tesla alone employs over 140,000 people.
