
Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi stated that Uber is paving the way for the future with its autonomous driving technology, adding that he believes self-driving technology will make roads safer.
Uber, the global vehicle sharing company, is partnering with Volkswagen to launch its own autonomous robotaxi service in Los Angeles next year. This move puts Uber in direct competition with Waymo in LA, while the two companies continue to collaborate in other markets like Austin, Texas. In the robotaxi market, which Waymo largely dominates, Uber plans to expand the self-driving market size by strengthening its autonomous driving portfolio, while competing and cooperating with Waymo.
Uber Expands Robotaxi Market Through Strategic Competition and Collaboration
Uber unveiled this plan on Wednesday at Go-Get 2025, its largest annual event showcasing its innovative technologies and new services, held at the Oculus in New York.

The Fixed Fare Pass, priced at 2.99 USD per month, allows users to fix their commute fares, potentially saving users up to 50 USD per month. The Prepaid Pass offers benefits to users who purchase multiple rides in advance (5, 10, 15, or 20 rides). Uber stated that all these products and services related to commuting can be conveniently managed within the Commute Hub in the Uber app. The Commuter Hub includes an AI-based notification system for optimal booking times, reducing the burden and stress of commuting.
Sachin Kansal, Uber’s Chief Product Officer, explained the company’s focus on introducing services that help ease the burden of continuously increasing living costs and enable Uber consumers to receive helpful benefits and reasonable choices in their daily lives. He emphasized that Uber will provide value across various aspects of daily life, including commuting, meal planning, and purchasing necessities.
Furthermore, Uber also introduced a service that automatically compares grocery prices across stores to recommend affordable and fast delivery options, and In Out through a partnership with the global restaurant reservation platform OpenTable.
