Trump’s Speech Stalls for 30 Seconds: Health or Strategy?

Newsis

Former U.S. President and Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump abruptly stopped speaking for about 30 seconds, causing a moment of silence during his speech.

According to The Independent, on May 19th, Trump suddenly fell silent while praising Texas at the National Rifle Association (NRA) annual meeting held in Texas the day before.

Trump spoke for about 1 hour and 30 minutes for his speech. The incident occurred about 1 hour and 20 minutes in.

Trump suddenly stopped speaking, stared straight ahead, and shook his head from side to side. He then continued to appear to be gazing ahead.

After about 30 seconds of silence, Trump resumed his speech, saying, “Our country is in decline.”

Biden’s Wins, a community of President Joe Biden’s supporters, pointed out on X, “Trump froze during the rally,” and claimed, “He is clearly unfit for the presidency.” They asked people to retweet this so that Americans can come to realize that Trump is senile.

According to Newsweek, Democratic content creator Harry Sisson poked at Trump saying, “He froze for 30 seconds,” and “This man is unfit to serve as president.” He added, “He is mentally declining rapidly,” and “He should resign from the presidential race as soon as possible.”

Earlier this year, 82-year-old Republican Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell was embroiled in health speculation when he froze and was unable to continue speaking.

Democratic supporters have also brought up McConnell’s case. At 77 years old, Trump is not young either. However, his supporters have suggested that his pause might have been due to a teleprompter malfunction or because he was listening to the audience’s shouting, according to The Independent.

Meanwhile, Steven Cheung, a spokesman for the Trump camp, told the media, “It’s a powerful dramatic effect. Any American would be worried about the direction of the country when they think of the disastrous Biden presidency, and this has happened before.”
