Who Will Be the Next Fed Chair? Trump Teases 4 Candidates for 2025

U.S President Donald Trump has announced that he will reveal his nominee for the next chair of the U.S. Federal Reserve within the coming weeks.

On Thursday, during an executive order signing ceremony at the White House, Trump responded to reporters’ questions about the timing of the announcement. He stated, “I’m not sure if it will happen before year-end, but it will be very soon.”

Trump is reportedly currently conducting interviews to finalize his choice for the position. When asked about the number of candidates under consideration, he mentioned three to four.

Trump disclosed that he had met again with Christopher Waller, a current Fed board member, the previous day. He remarked, “Waller has been with the Fed for a long time, and I’m deeply familiar with his career. He’s truly an outstanding individual.” Trump also praised current board member Michelle Bowman as “excellent.”

Previously, Kevin Hassett, the White House National Economic Council Chair, and former Fed board member Kevin Warsh were considered prominent candidates for the next Fed chair. With the two additional names mentioned today, the candidate pool now consists of four individuals.

Trump has fiercely criticized current chair Jerome Powell for his reluctant response to Trump’s calls for interest rate cuts. Trump has been actively working on selecting a replacement, as Powell’s term is set to expire in May of next year.
