Australian Man Discovers Lottery Win While Searching for Passport

An Australian man recently stumbled upon a winning lottery ticket from eight months ago while searching for his passport at home.

Foreign media outlets, including the Daily Mail, reported on Monday that a man from Melbourne, identified as Mr. A, discovered several lottery tickets while looking for his passport. One of these tickets turned out to be a 1 million AUD (approximately 654 thousand USD) winner from the December 27 draw of last year.

“I had no idea until I went through my storage unit and found some old tickets,” Mr. A said. “I was actually looking for my passport, but stumbled across them and just thought I’d give them a scan and see what’s there.”

He added, ” That’s when the 1 million AUD popped up. I’m just glad I didn’t throw them out!”

Despite this unexpected windfall, Mr. A revealed he hasn’t yet decided how to spend the winnings.

He stated, “I don’t know yet. At the end of the day, it’s money and that doesn’t equal happiness.” He also expressed a desire to use the money to help his mother.

The lottery discovery also led to another task he needs to take care of. “I did notice my passport had expired,” he said, adding, “I can definitely get a new one now.”
