On Monday, U.S. President Joe Biden expressed severe concern regarding North Korea’s decision to send troops to Russia, stating it is “very dangerous.”

The U.S. has revised its estimated number of deployed North Korean troops from 3,000 to approximately 10,000.

Ukraine reported that approximately 3,000 North Korean soldiers are currently conducting night training in Kursk, located near Russia’s southwestern border.

Deployment of North Korean Troops Poses Significant Risks

After casting his early vote for the presidential election in New Castle, Delaware, President Biden responded to reporters’ inquiries about the North Korean troop deployment to Russia, emphasizing that it is “very dangerous.”

This is Biden’s first direct comment on the North Korean troop deployment.

Biden stated that Russian President Vladimir Putin is now escalating the conflict by bringing North Korean troops into the fold and criticized former President Donald Trump, a Republican candidate, who has publicly flaunted his relationship with Putin.

Biden pointed out that Trump is claiming to communicate with Putin, criticizing his reckless behavior frequently.

Troops Moving Closer to Ukraine

The U.S. Department of Defense has reported that some of the North Korean troops dispatched to Russia have already advanced closer to Ukraine.

In addition, they have revised their estimated troop deployment from 3,000 last week to approximately 10,000.

Spokesperson Sabrina Singh indicated that North Korea has sent about 10,000 troops to Russia, who will be stationed near Ukraine for several weeks, thereby bolstering Russia’s military capabilities.

She further noted that some of the deployed North Korean soldiers have already moved near Ukraine.

Singh stressed that, as Secretary Lloyd Austin has previously warned, North Korean soldiers entering the battlefield will be considered combat forces and be deemed legitimate targets.

She also mentioned that if North Korean troops engage in combat against Ukraine, the Ukrainian forces could utilize weapons provided by the U.S. against them.

North Korean Troops Conducting Night Training

As the U.S. confirmed that some North Korean troops in Russia have moved closer to the Ukrainian border, Ukraine estimates their number to be around 3,000.

The National Resistance Center (NRC), operated by the Ukrainian Special Operations Forces, asserted that approximately 3,000 North Korean soldiers are primarily conducting night training in Kursk, southwestern Russia, near the Ukrainian frontier.

The NRC noted that North Korean soldiers are training at various facilities, primarily focusing on night exercises.

While the NRC has not confirmed when these troops will be deployed to the battlefield or how long their training will continue, they have identified their current locations.
