As Hurricane Milton approaches the East Coast following Hurricane Helene, electric vehicle (EV) owners feel anxious.
On Wednesday, Fox News reported that residents of Hillsborough County, Florida, were advised to move their EVs away from flood-prone areas due to the fire risks.
The National Hurricane Center (NHC) predicts life-threatening winds and heavy rainfall in parts of Central and Southwest Florida due to Hurricane Milton.
Hillsborough authorities urged residents not to charge their EVs during the hurricane and to park them at least 49 feet (15 meters) away from other cars and buildings to reduce the risk of fires caused by seawater flooding. Similar incidents occurred during Hurricane Helene when submerged EV batteries ignited, sparking several fires.
Meanwhile, the AP reported that Hurricane Milton made landfall in Florida with winds reaching 120 mph (192 km/h). It is expected to hit densely populated areas, including the Gulf of Mexico, Tampa, St. Petersburg, Sarasota, and Fort Myers.
