The United States announced on Monday plans to send additional military forces to the Middle East, according to a report from the Associated Press.
This decision comes as tensions escalate between Israel and Hezbollah, the Iran-backed militant group based in Lebanon. On the same day, Israel conducted airstrikes targeting Beirut, the capital of Lebanon.
Pentagon spokesperson Pat Ryder confirmed the deployment of more troops but did not disclose the number of soldiers or the specific missions they will undertake.
Currently, about 40,000 U.S. troops are stationed in the Middle East.
