Donald Trump Jr.’s Bold Move in GOP Politics as Kingmaker

Newsis

Donald Trump Jr., the son of former President Donald Trump, a Republican presidential candidate, emerges as a kingmaker within the Republican party.

The shocking selection of J.D. Vance, a Republican senator from Ohio, as Trump’s running mate is attributed to Trump Jr.’s influence.

Financial Times (FT) reported Tuesday that Trump Jr. has solidified his role as the generation kingmaker by settling conflicts with established Republican figures, including Rupert Murdoch, and securing Vance as the vice presidential candidate.

Mainstream Republicans, including Murdoch, had favored selecting established influential figures as vice-presidential candidates instead of the 39-year-old political rookie Vance.

During an event hosted by the online news site Axios on the 16th, Trump Jr. commented, “I don’t think that’s the case anymore,” referring to the ongoing influence of 93-year-old Murdoch, who retired last year but attended this year’s Republican National Convention (RNC). Trump Jr. expressed his belief that Murdoch’s involvement is no longer necessary.

This can be seen as a direct challenge to the Republican party’s traditional mainstream and a declaration of generation change.

“There was a time when you had to kneel to him (Murdoch) or others to survive in the Republican party,” Trump Jr. said.

He confidently predicted that Vance would become the 48th President of the United States after his father won the upcoming election in 2028.

Despite being a non-politician, Trump Jr. is expected to wield significant influence as the Republican party is being rebuilt around Trump.

While his younger sister, Ivanka Trump, and brother-in-law Jared Kushner, former senior White House advisors, have not yet attended the RNC, Trump Jr. is leading the convention.

Trump Jr. sat behind his father during the RNC in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and basked in the spotlight.

After an assassination attempt on the 13th, Trump demonstrated his robustness by clenching his fist, leaving a strong impression on voters. Trump Jr. lightened the mood with a joke about the incident.

Recalling the incident, Trump Jr. said, “I asked my father,” and added, “It was the most important question.” He joked, “How was your hair?”

Trump Jr. is also working to revamp the Republican senators.

He promotes Generation X candidates like Jim Banks (Indiana) and Bernie Moreno (Ohio).

He even joked that half of the House members are “idiots” and maybe about four senators are “okay.”

This suggests his intention to rejuvenate the Republican party with fresh blood.

Trump’s eldest son is beginning to dominate American politics by carrying his father’s legacy.
