Going Bananas for Beauty: The Unlikely New Skincare Trend

Recently, a beauty method dubbed banana peel has been gaining popularity among influencers in the United States.

According to the British Daily Mail on the 24th, New York-based makeup artist Katie Jane Hughes posted a video on her social media earlier this month, claiming to demonstrate the natural Botox effect of rubbing a banana peel on the face.

In the video, she claimed that applying banana peel to the face makes the skin smoother, tightens pores, and lifts the face. The video has garnered over 750,000 views and is gaining popularity.

Following the spread of the video, influencers in the United States and other countries have been posting videos of rubbing banana peels on their faces, claiming it to be a natural Botox that prevents aging.

However, doctors are expressing skepticism about the effects of banana peel Botox.

Dr. Geeta Yadav, a dermatologist in Toronto, Canada, wrote on her TikTok account, “There’s no topical or food supplement that is going to give you the same effect Botox can when you inject it.” She explained that “while banana peels do have antimicrobial properties, the benefits are so small that it’s unlikely you’ll notice them.”

She advised using a vitamin C serum instead of banana peel, noting that although banana peel is rich in antioxidants, rubbing the peel on the face does not allow for absorption into the skin, according to experts.

However, banana peel Botox’s popularity on social media is still not waning. Some suggest that its spread on social media may be more about fun or entertainment than a serious beauty method.
