Apple Enters Video Podcasting Competition

Apple is expected to enter the video podcast market, a sector currently dominated by companies like YouTube and Netflix.

According to U.S. media reports on February 17, Apple announced plans to integrate video features into its Apple Podcasts app this spring.

A podcast is a subscription-style internet broadcast, with the name originally derived as a portmanteau of “pod” from Apple’s portable audio device, the iPod, and the word broadcast.

With this update, users will be able to search for and watch video podcasts directly within the Apple Podcasts app. Creators will also be able to insert video advertisements into their content.

This move provides Apple with a strategic foothold to compete in the video podcast market alongside established players like YouTube, Spotify, and Netflix.

Despite being the company that pioneered the concept of podcasts, Apple has maintained a relatively small presence in the video podcast segment compared to its competitors.

YouTube, which has consistently invested in video podcasts, has reached over 1 billion monthly active users, while Spotify and Netflix have been pouring substantial resources into podcast creator partnerships and content production.

As the company that originally founded the podcast concept, Apple aims to provide a premier video experience for its users moving forward.
