AI-Powered Voice Phishing Prevention: LG Uplus and KB Kookmin Bank Join Forces

On Thursday, LG Uplus announced that it has partnered with KB Kookmin Bank to combat voice phishing scams using artificial intelligence (AI) technology. LG Uplus CEO Hong Beom-sik and KB Kookmin Bank President Lee Hwan-joo attended the signing ceremony along with key executives from both firms.

This collaboration aims to protect citizens from the growing threat of voice phishing crimes by strengthening cooperation between the telecommunications and financial sectors.

The partnership will focus on developing proactive measures to counter emerging fraud techniques. The two companies will work together to link suspicious patterns detected through the ixi-O service with abnormal transaction data from the banking sector to enable real-time detection of phishing attempts and swift responses to prevent widespread damage. They are also exploring ways to minimize harm in suspected cases by collaborating with law enforcement. LG Uplus had previously announced a partnership with the National Police Agency in August to share suspected phishing data.

LG Uplus will provide KB Kookmin Bank with data on potential phishing activities gathered through its AI calling app, ixi-O. This includes information from real-time voice phishing detection, analysis of malicious app installations, and monitoring of access to suspicious URLs. The company will also continue to track newly identified suspicious activities to help customers take preventive action before falling victim to financial fraud.

KB Kookmin Bank will integrate the shared data into its financial protection system for immediate monitoring. If voice phishing is suspected, the bank will take protective measures such as freezing the affected accounts.

As part of this agreement, customers of KB Kookmin Bank’s budget mobile brand KB Liiv Mobile will now have access to the AI calling app ixi-O.

The partnership will expand through a joint task force focused on sharing information about new phishing tactics, developing real-time response protocols, and launching public awareness campaigns on financial security. This collaboration allows LG Uplus to not only preemptively block voice phishing attempts but also extend its protective measures to prevent financial losses.
