On Wednesday, Intel Corporation announced its new AI Edge System, Edge AI Suite, and Open Edge Platform initiative.

These innovations aim to simplify and accelerate the use of AI at the edge across various sectors, including retail, manufacturing, smart cities, media, and entertainment, by streamlining integration with existing infrastructure.

Dan Rodriguez, Vice President of Intel’s Edge Computing Group, explained that their customers are looking to expand the use of AI in their existing infrastructure and workflows at the edge, aiming to meet their total cost of ownership (TCO) and achieve power and performance goals. With decades of experience at the edge, he noted that Intel is enhancing its edge AI offerings and support through Intel AI Edge Systems, Edge AI Suites, and Open Edge Platform to accelerate the delivery of AI-ready solutions across the ecosystem.

Edge AI is emerging as a crucial element of business innovation. Gartner predicts that by the end of this year, 50% of enterprise-managed data will be processed outside traditional data centers or the cloud – in locations like retail stores, factories, and healthcare facilities. They also forecast that over half of edge computing deployments will incorporate machine learning by next year.

With decades of edge experience and over 100,000 real-world edge implementations (many of which are currently using AI) in partnership with collaborators, Intel has a deep understanding of these unique challenges. Edge AI use cases vary significantly across industries, each with different performance and power requirements. The approach that works for cloud providers – integrating AI while maintaining existing platforms and software – isn’t suitable for edge environments that require optimal TCO and power levels.

Unlike large data centers with dedicated AI infrastructure, edge AI deployments must integrate smoothly with existing IT systems. They often operate in environments with power limitations, space constraints, and cost sensitivity. Built on Intel’s widely deployed edge technology, Intel’s AI Edge System, Edge AI Suite software, and Open Edge Platform address these challenges and support the ecosystem in bringing edge AI to market more quickly and efficiently.
