After the Holidays, Beware: Intense Workouts Could Accelerate Aging

After the Lunar New Year holiday, many people start their ambitious diet plans. While some are gearing up for high-intensity workouts to shed the weight gained from overeating during the holiday, it is crucial to be aware of unexpected side effects. One major concern is the overproduction of reactive oxygen species (ROS) due to excessive exercise, which can accelerate aging.

Reactive Oxygen Species: The Culprits Behind Aging That Can Spike Post-Workout

Reactive Oxygen Species are unstable molecules formed when oxygen undergoes oxidation in the body. They are known to attack cells and proteins, accelerating the aging process. In particular, the risk skyrockets if you abruptly stop an intense anaerobic workout. When the oxygen supply suddenly resumes after a temporary pause during exercise, it can intensify oxidative stress.

If dieting aims to look younger and more beautiful, it would naturally be disappointing when you actually look older. One method that has recently been gaining attention to prevent the sudden aging caused by ROS after exercise is hyperbaric oxygen therapy. This treatment involves breathing high-concentration oxygen in a high-pressure environment of 2 atm. Oxygen reaches even the tiniest blood vessels through the process, sparking new vessel growth and enhancing the body’s natural healing and regenerative abilities.

As we age, problems such as skin wrinkles, muscle loss, and decreased immune function arise. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy helps remove ROS from the body and promotes cell regeneration, which can prevent or improve these aging issues. Additionally, if hyperbaric oxygen therapy is performed repeatedly, the body perceives the normal state as a relatively low-oxygen condition, enhancing its antioxidant capacity.

Professional athletes who undergo intense training, such as Son Heung Min, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Neymar, are known to use hyperbaric oxygen therapy at home to prevent ROS, slow aging, and maintain their energy and strength.

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy: Ticket to Turning Reverse Aging

Recent studies have shown that this therapy can lengthen the telomeres and may also be effective in reversing aging. Telomeres are DNA structures at the ends of chromosomes, and aging accelerates as they shorten. Multiple trials and papers have shown that consistent hyperbaric oxygen therapy slows telomere shrinkage and might even increase the length in reverse.

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy helps prevent aging and aids in fatigue recovery, muscle recovery, and cognitive function improvement. Increasing blood oxygen saturation can also help prevent and improve complications from diabetes, prevent hair loss, promote recovery after hair transplants, and even positively impact cancer prevention and the reduction of metastasis.

Exercise is essential for a healthy diet, but excessive workouts can harm the body due to increased reactive oxygen species. Therefore, incorporating hyperbaric oxygen therapy could be a more effective and satisfying way to lose weight, maintain health, and prevent aging.
