Samsung’s New Foldables: Bigger Screens, Bigger Prices!

evleaks

Samsung Electronics is set to unveil its next-generation foldable Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6 smartphones at the summer edition of its Galaxy Unpacked event to be held in Paris, France, on July 10.

According to industry sources on Thursday, the Galaxy Z Flip 6 256GB model will be sold for around $1,075 and the Galaxy Z Fold 6 256GB model for about $1,606. Considering that the prices for the Galaxy Z Flip 5 256GB model and the Galaxy Z Fold 5 256GB were $1,013 and $1,518, respectively, the price increase falls within the range of $58 to $87. The 512GB models are also expected to see a similar price increase.

The price increase for the latest foldable smartphones came as anticipated. Previously, IT tipster OnLeaks predicted that both models would be $100 more expensive than their predecessors.

The Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Fold 6, unlike the Galaxy S24 series which incorporates both Samsung’s mobile application processor (AP) Exynos 2400 and Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, will exclusively feature Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 in all units. With various specifications such as an enhanced camera and battery, the production costs seem to have increased. As a result, Samsung is not expected to offer the double storage benefit—where a 512GB device is provided at the price of a 256GB device—during the pre-order period for the Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Fold 6. This promotion was available during the Galaxy S24 series pre-orders.

The Galaxy Z Flip 6 features the same screen size as its predecessor, with a 3.4-inch cover screen and a 6.7-inch internal screen. But considering the Galaxy AI features, the RAM capacity has been increased from 8GB to 12GB. It also features a 50 million-pixel wide-angle, 12 million-pixel ultra-wide-angle, and 10 million-pixel front camera along with a 4000mAh battery. The Galaxy Z Fold 6 has slightly increased the screen size by reducing the bezel (border), but when folded, the device thickness has been reduced from 0.53 inches to 0.48 inches, and the weight from 8.9 oz to 8.4 oz.
