Hong Kong Observatory social media

A cloud shaped like a dog has been spotted in the sky over Hong Kong, becoming a sensation online.

On June 25, the South China Morning Post (SCMP) reported that the dog-shaped cloud is gaining popularity on Hong Kong’s social media.

The Hong Kong Observatory explained the dog-shaped cloud, stating, “It usually appears in the summer and is more commonly seen on clear days. This type of cloud (dog-shaped cloud) is classified as a low cloud (stratus) formed at altitudes below 2,000 meters.”

They added, “It looks like a hot puppy when the afterglow of the sunset shines on it after the sun has set.”

The photo was reportedly taken on June 20 in the New Territories region of Tsuen Wan.

The post garnered much interest, receiving about 1100 likes.

Local netizens reacted with various comments such as “It looks like my baby (pet) who crossed the rainbow bridge last year,” “It’s like a fairy tale,” and “Who summoned it?”

Meanwhile, Hong Kong experienced unusually high temperatures in March, with temperatures exceeding 86°F. On March 24, the temperature in Hong Kong rose to 89°F, setting a record high for March temperatures since observations began in 1884, 140 years ago.
