Trump’s Defiant Fist: Could the Shooting Incident Boost His Election Chances?

Newsis

On the 13th, former U.S. President Donald Trump was shot at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania. Despite being evacuated by his security detail, Trump demonstrated his resilience by raising his fist to his supporters, a gesture being analyzed as potentially bolstering his chances in the upcoming November elections.

On the 14th, Sky News drew parallels between this incident and the successful re-election of Ronald Reagan, who was shot only about two months after taking office in 1981. The report suggested that this recent assassination attempt on Trump is already being compared to Reagan’s experience.

Reagan was hit by a bullet that ricocheted off his bulletproof limousine. He joked with his wife Nancy, “Honey, I forgot to duck,” and before undergoing emergency surgery, he told the medical team, “Tell me you’re all Republicans.” He was re-elected three years later.

Sky News reported that Trump, bleeding from his right ear and surrounded by bodyguards, still managed to raise his fist on stage and shout, “Fight!” This moment is expected to be one of the most memorable scenes from this election campaign.

Trump even paused to put on his missing shoe, telling his bodyguards to wait before showing his supporters his raised fist. This act allowed his supporters to witness his fighting spirit firsthand.

However, some criticized his decision not to evacuate with his bodyguards immediately as a risky move that put them in danger.

Sky News analyzed that the key issue will be how Trump’s actions after the shooting will influence undecided voters.
