From Playground to Courtroom: Woman Faces Judge After Stabbing Teen

Financial News

A 40-year-old woman who stabbed a teenage girl following an argument involving her child has been given a suspended prison sentence.

According to the legal community on the 23rd, the Incheon District Court announced that the presiding judge sentenced the woman who was indicted on charges of special assault, to six months in prison with a one-year suspension.

The court also ordered the woman to undergo psychiatric treatment along with probation.

The woman was handed over to trial on charges of stabbing and injuring a 13-year-old girl with a weapon at a park in Seo-gu, Incheon, on July 24 last year. The teenager was reportedly injured in the head.

Upon investigation, it was found that the woman committed such a crime by driving to the park after receiving a call that her child argued with the teenager.

Furthermore, it was confirmed that the woman also swung a weapon at a 17-year-old girl whom she had never met before, on her way to the park. As a result, the 17-year-old was injured in the abdomen and left arm and was treated at the hospital.

The court pointed out that the woman’s actions were unacceptable.

However, the court explained the reason for the sentence, stating, “She admitted to the crime and showed remorse, and settled with some of the victims. We considered factors such as no previous punishments exceeding fines, and that she had committed the crime in a state of diminished mental capacity.”
