Jeju Island Nightmare: Tourist’s Drunken Joyride Takes a Deadly Turn

A woman in her 30s has been handed over to the prosecution after causing a fatal accident while driving a rental car under the influence.

On the 29th, Jeju West Police Station reported that they had transferred the woman to the prosecution on charges of violating the Road Traffic Act (drunk driving) and the Act on Aggravated Punishment, etc., of Specific Crimes (dangerous driving resulting in death).

The woman is a tourist and is accused of causing the death of a male passenger in his 30s while driving drunk around 11:47 PM on the 15th of last month in Hallim-eup, Jeju City.

The car involved in the accident was a convertible. The impact caused a utility pole to fall and struck the male passenger.

According to the police investigation, the woman’s blood alcohol level was above the license cancellation threshold (0.08% or higher), and she was driving at a speed of 130 km/h when she collided with the utility pole on the roadside.
