Major U.S. retailer Walmart has recalled a specific model of stainless steel tumbler due to the risk of serious injuries from the lid.
According to reports from the Associated Press and other media outlets on July 12, Walmart announced the recall of approximately 850,000 Ozark Trail 64-ounce stainless steel tumblers, which had been sold in its stores across the United States since 2017.
In a notice issued on July 10, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) warned of the risk of severe impact injuries. The CPSC explained, “When a consumer attempts to open the capped bottles after food, carbonated beverages or perishable beverages, such as juice or milk, are stored inside over time.”
Furthermore, the CPSC disclosed that as of July 10, Walmart had received three reports of consumers being struck in the face and injured while opening the bottles. Two of these incidents resulted in permanent vision loss when the individuals were hit in the eye.
Walmart has urged consumers to immediately discontinue use of these bottles and contact the company for a full refund.
