Meet the Ex-Con Who Hit the Lottery Jackpot: $130 Million and Counting

X

The recent activities of a British sex offender, who won a £7.2 million (about $11 million) jackpot after his release from prison, have been made public.

On the 21st, The Sun in the UK reported on the recent situation of Iorworth Hoare, 71, who was serving a life sentence for multiple rape charges before winning the lottery and being released.

According to the media, he lives in a small village in northern England. After his release, his whereabouts were unknown until the media revealed that Hoare had changed his name to Edward Thomas and relocated to Daras Hall near Newcastle after Sunderland.

Alan Shearer, the English Premier League’s all-time leading scorer, also lives nearby.

Pictures of Hoare’s daily life near his home, which he purchased for approximately $760,000, have been revealed. In these pictures, he is wearing an old shirt and jeans while carrying a shopping bag.

However, residents are afraid since discovering that a notorious criminal, Hoare, lives in their neighborhood. Some have even started trying to sell their homes.

Hoare has been imprisoned multiple times for sex crimes committed since his 20s. In May 1989, he was arrested for attempting to assault a woman in her 60s sexually and was sentenced to life in prison.

In August 2004, while incarcerated in an open prison that allowed weekend leave, Hoare bought a lottery ticket and won the jackpot. Using his winnings, he hired a lawyer and successfully obtained parole.

After his release in March 2005, Hoare received a lottery prize of £7.2 million. The conditions of his release initially restricted him to receiving £8,666 ($12,000) per month, but last year, he gained full access to his winnings.

It is also known that he has since increased his wealth to over $15 million through investments.
