Chinese star athlete Wu Yanni, previously criticized for seemingly prioritizing her appearance over her performance, has set a new record in the women’s 100m hurdles. This achievement has silenced criticisms about her distinctive makeup choices.

According to local media on Monday, Wu Yanni placed first with a time of 12.74 seconds in the final of the 2024 National Athletics Championships 100m Hurdle, which was held in Le Jiao, Shandong Province.

This is the best record in the Asian women’s 100m hurdles this season and a new record for the athlete.

The final competition garnered much attention as it brought together top-tier athletes from China. Wu Yanni came first with 13.06 seconds in the preliminary competition, advancing to the finals. Lin Weiwei took second place with 13.26 seconds.

With the latest win, Wu Yanni silenced some fans’ criticism that she only cares about her appearance. On April 20, Wu Yanni came in a disappointing 10th place in the 2024 Diamond League Women’s 100m Hurdles held on the southeastern coast of China, Xiamen.

Her latest victory is in the spotlight after her repeated poor performance in a series of matches.

On May 20, Wu Yanni finished 10th with 13.04 seconds in the 2024 Diamond League Women’s 100m Hurdles held in Xiamen, China.

Some fans criticized, “Her excessive concern for her appearance is the cause for her poor performance.” At that time, Wu Yanni showed off her appearance with heavy eye makeup and star-shaped rhinestones around her eyes.

Wu Yanni is a promising athlete with the highest rank in the 100m hurdles in China. She is also expected to participate in the Paris Olympics. She is famous for her flashy outfits and lively personality outside the stadium and is even called the “Track Goddess” in local China.

However, her recent performance has fallen short of fans’ expectations, so her unique makeup has drawn her into controversies.

“Fans come to the stadium to see the game, not her appearance,” “Her skills might have declined due to her concern for appearance,” and “Her outfits are too provocative.”

But Wu Yanni proved herself in this competition by setting a new personal record.

“Makeup boosts my confidence and motivation,” said Wu Yanni, adding, “I hope everyone will always support me and Chinese athletes, whether I win or lose in the future.”
