A woman who fell during a marathon and could no longer run has been awarded a substantial amount of compensation.

According to the Seattle Times on the 23rd, Lesley Mettler Auld was awarded a settlement of $13.1 million by a King County jury.

In 2021, Auld fell on a sidewalk in the Queen Anne neighborhood of Seattle during an ultramarathon. She injured her quadriceps and underwent several surgeries, but could no longer run.

Even 34 months after her last surgery, Auld is still using her hands and knees to climb uphill or stairs.

The jury decided that there was a responsibility for compensation since they judged that the cause of the accident was poor road management by the City of Seattle and apartment owners.

The sidewalk where Auld fell was always covered with water and algae, and many other residents testified in court that they had also fallen there.
