Toyota Motor Corporation, which was caught in certification fraud, is delaying the production and release of the new Lexus GX550.
According to the Nihon Keizai Shimbun (Nikkei) on the 25th, Toyota is expected to delay the production and release of 100 Lexus GX550s that were pre-sold until mid-last month.
Although this model was not found to be involved in the fraud, it is a measure for the investigation of the fraud related to the type designation scandal and prevention of recurrence.
Nikkei reported, “Irregularities surrounding the designation of the country’s format required for mass production were discovered,” adding, “The acquisition of new certification has been postponed.”
Due to the suspension of certification acquisition, the production and release of the Toyota Crown Estate has also been delayed.
GX was announced to be released in Japan this fall. Dealers were informed that production was scheduled to start in July.
