The discovery of the body of a Colombian actress who went missing while aiming to become a North American celebrity, has sent shockwaves through Colombia.

According to the Daily Mail on May 13th, a Colombian actress and model Ania Acosta was found dead 10 months after she went off the grid.

It was reported that Acosta’s last contact with her family was when she told her mother before her disappearance that she was in Morelia and would be traveling to Guadalajara.

Acosta’s family explained, “She spoke as if she was saying goodbye to her mother, expressing her love for us all and hinting that she was in danger.”

Acosta’s family told Colombian media Noticias Caracol that “Mexican police showed them a video of Acosta being forced into a car.”

They emphasized, “Just because Acosta is dead doesn’t mean everything is over. The truth behind this death must be revealed.”

The Daily Mail reported, “There are suspicions that Acosta was involved in a crime after her abduction, and the investigation will continue.”

The Colombian Embassy in Mexico stated, “Acosta’s funeral was held on May 8th” and “We apologize to the family and fans for failing to protect our citizen.” They also added, “Acosta became a victim of human trafficking and did not make it back alive.”

Acosta worked as an actress and model when she began her career in the entertainment industry after being crowned the beauty pageant in Chocó, Colombia in 2001.
