Russian President Vladimir Putin has ratified an agreement streamlining the process for deploying military forces between Russia and India on each other’s territories.
According to Russia’s state-run RIA Novosti news agency on Monday, Putin signed the intergovernmental agreement covering the deployment of military units, warships, and aircraft in both countries.
This agreement will allow Russian and Indian naval vessels to use each other’s port facilities with simplified notification processes. It also streamlines procedures for military aircraft from both nations to access shared airspace and airfield infrastructure.
Citing public documents, the report states that the new procedures will facilitate joint training exercises, training missions, humanitarian assistance, and disaster relief efforts. The agreement is expected to accelerate the development of military cooperation between Russia and India.
Despite pressure from the United States, Russia and India continue to strengthen their ties. On December 5, Putin visited India and met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, agreeing to enhance cooperation in the energy sector, including oil and nuclear power.
