SK hynix announced on Monday that it unveiled its strategy for next-generation NAND storage products at the 2025 OCP Global Summit held in San Jose, California.
The company stated, “With the rapid growth of the AI inference market, we’re seeing a surge in demand for NAND storage products capable of processing vast amounts of data swiftly and efficiently. To meet this demand, we’re introducing our ‘AIN (AI-NAND) family’ lineup, offering solutions tailored for the AI era.”
During the executive session on the event’s second day, Vice President Kim Cheon-seong introduced the AIN family. This product line features NAND solutions optimized for performance, bandwidth, and capacity, designed to boost data processing speeds and maximize storage capability.
AIN P (Performance) is engineered to handle the massive data input/output in large-scale AI inference environments efficiently. By minimizing bottlenecks between AI computations and storage, it significantly enhances processing speed and energy efficiency. The company is currently redesigning NAND and controllers for this purpose, with sample releases planned for late next year.
AIN D (Capacity) focuses on high-capacity, low-power, cost-effective data storage, making it ideal for AI data archiving. It aims to scale up capacity to petabyte (PB) levels, surpassing current terabyte (TB) solid-state drives (SSDs) based on quad-level cell (QLC) technology. The goal is to create an intermediate tier storage solution that combines SSD speed with HDD cost-effectiveness.
AIN B (Bandwidth) expands bandwidth by stacking NAND flash memory. It applies high-bandwidth NAND flash (HBF) technology, similar to the high-bandwidth memory (HBM) used in DRAM stacking.
To foster the AIN B ecosystem, SK hynix hosted an HBF Night on October 14 near the OCP event venue, inviting global tech leaders. This followed their August signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with SanDisk for HBF standardization.
An Hyun, SK hynix’s Chief Development Officer (CDO), commented, “The OCP Global Summit and HBF Night allowed us to showcase SK hynix’s evolution into a global AI memory solution provider in this AI-centric market. We are committed to collaborating with customers and partners to establish ourselves as a key player in the AI memory market through our next-generation NAND storage solutions.”
