A 17-year-old girl recently discovered she had male chromosomes after visiting the hospital to address the absence of menstruation.

On Sunday, Chinese media outlets, including Jimu News, reported that a teenager from Fujian Province named Xiaolin visited multiple hospitals after failing to menstruate despite going through puberty.

Following an ultrasound examination, Xiaolin received a startling revelation from her doctors.

They informed her that she did not have female reproductive organs, such as a uterus or ovaries. Genetic testing confirmed she had a typical male chromosomal pattern: 46,XY.

Further testing led to a diagnosis of Complete Androgen Insensitivity Syndrome (CAIS), a type of disorder of sexual development (DSD).

This rare condition, which affects about 2 to 5 people per 100,000, occurs when an individual has male chromosomes and testes but does not respond to male hormones, leading to the development of female physical traits.

Doctors explained the underlying causes and available treatment options to Xiaolin. After careful consideration, she chose to continue living as a woman and move forward with the recommended medical interventions.

Doctors also recommended removing her testes, which produce hormones essential for physical development, due to the potential risk of future tumor formation.

After her surgery, Xiaolin expressed gratitude for the support she received, saying she was thankful for the understanding she had been shown and found comfort in knowing she was not alone on this journey.
