The Kremlin confirmed on Monday that North Korean troops may participate in Russia’s Victory Day parade, commemorating World War II’s end.

According to Sputnik News, Kremlin advisor Yuri Ushakov said that military forces from several countries, potentially including North Korean troops, would participate in next year’s Victory Day celebration.

Ushakov emphasized that next year’s May 9 event marks the 80th anniversary, adding, “North Korean forces and several other nations may also participate.”

Previously, in November, the Russian Defense Ministry disclosed that it had invited North Korea to participate in the Victory Day parade.

During a visit to North Korea, Defense Minister Andrei Belousov reportedly asked Kim Jong Un to send North Korean troops to the 80th-anniversary parade, stating that Russia was “awaiting a positive decision,” according to the Russian Defense Ministry.

Every year on May 9, Russia traditionally holds a grand parade in Moscow’s Red Square to commemorate its victory over Nazi Germany in World War II.

Next year’s Victory Day parade, marking the 80th anniversary of the war’s end, is expected to feature troops from various countries, with a high probability of North Korean troops joining the march.

As North Korean forces become involved in the Ukraine conflict, this event will likely showcase the strengthening military alliance between North Korea and Russia to domestic and international audiences.
