During her trip to Sri Lanka, a Chinese tourist fell from a moving train while attempting to take a photo by sticking her body out of the train. Fortunately, she miraculously survived the incident.

On Wednesday, local media outlet LankaSara reported that the incident occurred on December 7 as the coastal train traveled between Wellawatte and Bambalapitiya.

Footage of the incident shows the woman precariously hanging from the train’s railing and leaning out. As she struck a pose with her head tilted back, she hit her head on a passing tree and tumbled from the train. Fortunately, she survived with only minor injuries by landing in some bushes.

Local authorities confirmed no serious injuries from the accident and reminded passengers to prioritize safety during their travels.

In Sri Lanka, trains often operate with open doors or no doors at all. This has led to frequent accidents where passengers lean out and fall, resulting in severe injuries or fatalities.

In response, Sri Lankan railway authorities stated, “We strictly prohibit dangerous behavior on trains and will not take responsibility for accidents that occur when locals or foreign tourists engage in such risky actions.”

The incident sparked a flurry of reactions from Chinese netizens, with comments saying, “How embarrassing,” “Ending up in trouble for the vibe,” “Please, don’t do such dangerous things,” and “Seems like she has no awareness of safety.”

This is not the first time a passenger has been injured while taking a photo on a train. In August, a TikToker in Thailand hit her head on a pole while attempting to hang from a train to take a picture.

The Thai State Railway released the video of the incident. It warned, “While the train was moving slowly at the time, resulting in minor injuries, such actions could easily lead to severe accidents or even death.”
