Russia Denies Sending Troops to North Korea: What’s Really Going On?

Yonhap News

Russia has strongly denied allegations regarding the deployment of North Korean troops in support of its military operations. During a press briefing on Wednesday, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova dismissed claims of North Korea sending troops to assist Russian forces, labeling the reports as “false and exaggerated information.”

In response to U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin’s statement that there is evidence supporting the deployment of North Korean troops to Russia, Zakharova sidestepped the question, stating, “For information on the location of North Korean troops, please inquire in Pyongyang.”

Zakharova also expressed confusion over the South Korean National Intelligence Service’s announcement regarding North Korean troop deployment, stating, “We cannot understand why such a commotion has been created.” She underscored that “military cooperation between Russia and North Korea poses no threat to South Korea.”
