Voter Reactions: Harris’s Plans Impress, Trump Falls Short!

Yonhap News

Following the first TV debate between Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump, Harris emerged as the clear favorite among viewers, according to post-debate assessments. Nearly two-thirds of those who watched the debate rated Harris as the superior debater, with analysts attributing her success to her composed demeanor, which sharply contrasted with Trump’s more animated behavior.

42% of Voters Say “Harris Presented a Better Plan”

A CNN poll conducted with SSRS revealed that 63% of registered voters who watched the debate felt Harris performed better, compared to 37% who favored Trump. This shift in perception was notable, as more voters expressed a favorable opinion of Harris after the debate. Before the debate, 39% of registered voters viewed Harris positively. This figure rose to 45% post-debate, while her negative ratings dropped from 51% to 44%.

In contrast, Trump’s favorability ratings remained unchanged. Post-debate, 39% of respondents viewed Trump favorably, and 51% held an unfavorable opinion. These figures closely mirrored pre-debate sentiments.

Regarding policy proposals, 42% of viewers believed Harris offered a more effective plan to address America’s issues, while 33% felt Trump had the superior proposal. The remaining 22% believed neither candidate presented a particularly strong plan.

The survey, which included responses from 605 voters who participated via text message, has a margin of error of ±5.3%.

Harris: Calm Smile and Confident Gestures

Harris’s body language also drew attention. Her calm demeanor, including raised eyebrows and a steady smile, contrasted with Trump’s more agitated responses.

NBC noted that Harris maintained a composed expression while Trump frequently avoided direct eye contact and pointed at her rather than engaging directly.

The network noted that Harris’s demeanor during the debate seemed intentionally provocative towards Trump, which may have contributed to the perception that she unsettled him.
