Gun Violence Hits Home: 4 Dead, 9 Injured in High School Attack

On Wednesday morning, a shooting at Apalachee High School in Winder, Georgia, about 70 kilometers northeast of Atlanta, resulted in at least four deaths and nine injuries. Local media, including the Associated Press, reported that one suspect was apprehended at the scene. CNN and other outlets identified the suspect as a 14-year-old male, although it has not been confirmed whether he is a student at the school.

President Joe Biden issued a statement urging Congress to take action, stating, “We must not continue to accept this as normal.” He called for a ban on assault weapons and high-capacity magazines, the enactment of stricter background checks for gun purchasers, and the end of immunity for gun manufacturers.

Vice President Kamala Harris also emphasized during a campaign event in New Hampshire, “It is just outrageous that every day in the United States of America, parents have to send their children to school worried about whether or not their child will come home alive.” She stressed the need to “end the epidemic of gun violence in our country once and for all.”

Earlier on Monday, another shooting incident at the Blue Line train station in Forest Park, Illinois, resulted in the deaths of four individuals.
