Little Learners, Big Skills: Inside China’s Unique Kindergarten Curriculum!

TikTok

A Chinese kindergarten teaching basic life skills such as laundry and cooking to foster children’s independence is drawing attention.

According to recent reports by the South China Morning Post (SCMP), a TikToker shared a video depicting a day in a Chinese kindergarten.

The video captures 3 to 6-year-old children in a kindergarten learning basic life skills and participating in various physical activities.

The kids are seen doing group exercises to music or skipping jump ropes with friends.

The physical activities at the kindergarten also included military-style training. Children climbed ropes that even adults might find challenging or balanced on tires.

The TikToker stated, “While children in other kindergartens are eating, sleeping, and playing games, children in this Chinese kindergarten are learning to be independent by doing the laundry or cooking.”

They added, “After meals, the children voluntarily do the dishes. They also engage in activities such as embroidery, weaving mats, and even use a sewing machine to make beds.”

With this, a teacher from the kindergarten shared, “We shifted to more innovative and diverse activities as teaching elementary school curriculum in kindergarten was prohibited.”

Kindergartens offering such educational programs are gaining significant popularity, with many parents enrolling their children from distant areas like Harbin in the north and Mongolia.
