From Lattes to Lawsuits: Seattle Coffee Dispute Takes a Violent Turn

In the United States, a cafe owner was caught on camera throwing coffee and smashing a customer’s car with a hammer, causing a stir.

According to the New York Post on June 17, the incident occurred at a drive-thru coffee shop in Seattle on June 11.

A male customer ordered coffee and water, and when the total came to $22, he complained about the high price. The man even got out of his car and started arguing with the cafe owner at the window. In response to the customer’s complaint, the owner replied, “Who forced you to buy coffee here?” The argument between the two continued for about 15 minutes.

As the argument escalated, the man threw the coffee and water he had received at the window and tried to drive away. The owner then opened the window and smashed the front windshield of the man’s car with a hammer. The man left with his car window broken.

Emma Lee, the 23-year-old cafe owner, explained, “There was a price list, so he couldn’t have been unaware of the prices.” She added that she felt threatened because the man was yelling, spitting, and trying to open the window. She stated that smashing the window with a hammer was an act of self-defense.

Lee, who usually works in a bikini, revealed that this was not the first time the man had behaved rudely. She said, “I’m not worried about covering the cost of the broken windshield,” and filed a police report against the man for assault.

Afterward, Lee shared the video on social media, and it became a hot topic online. While some comments on the post supported Emma’s actions, saying, “It was satisfying to see the hammer smash the window,” and “That customer wouldn’t have acted like that if the owner were a man,” others criticized her, saying, “You committed a crime by attacking him too.”
