Vice President Kamala Harris is gaining momentum as the Democratic alternative candidate for November’s upcoming U.S. presidential election. However, British bookmakers still see former President Donald Trump as the frontrunner for election.
On the 22nd, Sky News reported that betting company Betfair Exchange statistics indicate Harris has gained support within the Democratic Party following President Joe Biden’s decision not to run.
According to Betfair, Vice President Kamala Harris’s chances of winning the presidency increased to 23%, a rise of 6 percentage points following President Biden’s decision not to run. However, she still trails significantly behind Donald Trump, who currently has a 62% chance of winning.
Betfair noted that Harris faces several challenges in her campaign to defeat Trump, who was officially nominated as the Republican candidate last week.
Interestingly, in 2021, Harris was perceived as having a higher chance of becoming president than Biden or Trump.
Following a shooting incident on the 13th and his appearance at the Republican National Convention the next week, Trump’s odds improved further to 69%.
Sky News also reported that despite legal risks, Trump’s likelihood of winning has not been significantly impacted.
