Emergency Response: How Police Turned a Traffic Jam into a Lifeline

Newsis

The story of police officers who saved an emergency patient’s life with a quick response on their way to work has been revealed and is drawing attention.

According to the Gyeonggi Nambu Provincial Police, at around 8:20 AM on May 9, Officer Park Shin Joo from the Traffic Department of Suwon Jungbu Police Station was on traffic control duty at the Maetan Gwonseon Station intersection in Yeongtong-gu, Suwon, Gyeonggi-do, when he received an urgent request for help from a driver in his 50s.

A Civilian Who Asked For Help Without Time to Call 911

The driver in his 50s pleaded, “My wife’s surgery wound won’t stop bleeding. Please help.”

At the time, the driver’s wife who was in her 40s, was sitting in the back seat of his car, eyes closed and bleeding from her body.

The driver lamented, “I didn’t have time to call 911, so I drove out, but there were too many traffic jams. I feared for my wife’s life.”

The wife had undergone breast cancer surgery and was in a critical situation due to a wound dehiscence.

Upon hearing the driver’s story, Officer Park evaluated that it was an emergency and decided to escort the patient to the hospital with his colleague, Officer Park Jin Woo. They immediately sounded the siren on the sidecar and escorted the couple to the hospital.

Siren Blaring: Going About Four Miles Through Suwon in Five Minutes

The two Officers were driving escorting from front to back. They crossed the centerline in congested sections and sped up by violating signals at red lights. At intersections, one officer would control the vehicles in each lane after signaling, allowing the driver’s car to pass.

Thanks to their response, the driver’s wife could go around four miles through the severely congested streets of Suwon in just five minutes. They safely arrived at Suwon’s St. Vincent’s Hospital.

The wife who quickly arrived at the hospital and received treatment thanks to the two police officers, is reported to have recovered her health.

The driver expressed his gratitude, saying, “I am truly grateful to the police officers who helped in an emergency. If it had been a little later, it could have been a big problem.”

Officer Park said, “I just did what I should do as a police officer.”
