Rev Up Your Savings with Eco-Friendly Car Insurance Options

Yonhap News

As societal concern about the climate crisis increases, more people are engaging in daily actions to protect the environment. In line with this, the insurance industry is taking the lead in establishing an eco-friendly road traffic culture by offering special insurance clauses that provide discounts for drivers who actively promote eco-friendly driving.

According to the insurance industry on the 24th, AXA Direct Auto Insurance by AXA General Insurance (referred to as AXA Insurance), is offering benefits to customers who want to practice eco-friendliness while driving and have eco-friendly driving habits. AXA Insurance has prepared an Eco-Friendly Parts Use special clause that pays a certain amount when a driver who has joined AXA Direct Auto Insurance uses eco-friendly parts for car parts replacement repairs.

The Eco-Friendly Parts Use special clause, which is automatically applied to AXA Direct Auto Insurance subscribers, reimburses 20% of the cost of new parts when drivers repair their cars using eco-friendly parts. In this case, eco-friendly parts refer to used parts or remanufactured parts supplied by a company recognized by the Insurance Development Institute or the insurance company, and the guarantee is applied only when the car is repaired using these.

Furthermore, AXA Insurance has introduced the country’s first easy and convenient car mileage discount special clause. The mileage special clause of AXA Direct Auto Insurance was developed to contribute to the establishment of an eco-friendly road traffic culture, such as reducing carbon emissions and car accidents, while improving customer convenience and expanding benefits. This special clause allows drivers to choose discounts based on driving distance and fuel type.

Drivers who opt for the mileage pre-discount special clause can get a discount on their car insurance premium according to the agreed annual driving distance. It is suitable for drivers who walk or use public transportation instead of driving cars to practice eco-friendliness.

In addition, a special clause has been prepared for drivers of electric vehicles classified as eco-friendly vehicles. The three types of special clauses for AXA Direct Auto Insurance electric vehicles (risk guarantee special clause during electric vehicle charging, electric vehicle excess repair cost support special clause, extension of emergency dispatch service towing distance–industry’s longest distance of 150km), which were first introduced in March 2022, increased the number of subscribers by 52.4% in just one year after their release.

An AXA Insurance official stated, “AXA Insurance has been planning insurance products and eco-friendly social contribution activities reflecting the recent growing customer needs for eco-friendliness,” and added, “We will continue to spare no effort in preparing measures that can be of real help to drivers who encourage eco-friendly driving habits and contribute to environmental protection.”

Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance also offers a mileage special clause for electric and hydrogen car owners, providing an additional discount of up to 5% based on an annual driving distance of up to 15,000km.

KB Insurance offers notable discounts as well. Their Step Count Discount Special Clause provides a discount on car insurance if the driver achieves more than 5,000 steps per day within 90 days. In addition, the Public Transportation Use Discount Special Clause provides up to an 8% discount based on public transportation usage records.
