Why LG’s Agitator Washer Is Winning Hearts (and Sales) in America

LG Electronics

LG Electronics has received positive comments about its agitator washing machine from Consumer Reports.

LG Electronics swept the top three spots in the major categories of the US Consumer Reports Best Washing Machines of 2024 evaluation by Consumer Reports. Samsung Electronics products ranked fifth and sixth. The worst products were from Maydi, Insignia, and Maytag.

The agitator washing machine is a budget-friendly product that rotates the agitator inside the washing machine. While it has become less common in South Korea due to the popularity of front-loading and top-loading washing machines, it remains a significant product group in North America, accounting for 30% of the market share.

The LG Electronics agitator washing machine, with a total score of 81 points, received high scores in washing performance and water efficiency. Its convenience features, such as an automatic detergent dispenser and remote Wi-Fi capabilities, were also praised. Furthermore, it proved its high energy efficiency as an Energy Star-certified product.

In 2020, LG Electronics launched its first agitator washing machine in the U.S.

Current agitator washing machine models have a major downside. They caused fabric damage by rotating a single spiral blade left and right. LG Electronics successfully mass-produced a triple spiral agitator that loads laundry up to six times more per rotation than current market products. It also causes less fabric damage and improves washing performance with less water. LG Electronic’s motor control technology also allowed three-dimensional washing from four directions.

Since its debut in the North American market, LG Electronics’ agitator washing machine has had an annual sales growth rate of over 22% until 2023. It also contributes significantly to the washing machine business sector by accounting for more than 24% of the total sales of LG Electronics washing machines in North America.

Previously, LG Electronics solidified its reputation as the “home appliances are LG” by sweeping the 1st to 3rd places in the Consumer Reports for 2024 Best Washing Machine evaluation selected by American consumers.

Consumer Reports has a large-scale independent experiment and a separate evaluation team. The budget for product testing alone totals $30 million per year. They gained reliability from American consumers through their independent and fair evaluation.
