Volkswagen’s Scout Motors Unveils Game-Changing Electric Pickup and SUV

Yonhap News

Scout Motors, a Volkswagen subsidiary, has unveiled concept designs for its electric pickup truck and sports utility vehicle (SUV). According to the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) on Thursday, the introduced concept models for the pickup truck and SUV are both priced around $60,000, with sales expected to start in 2027.

The WSJ reported, “Volkswagen hopes that Scout’s new vehicles will help boost its sales in the United States, capitalizing on the popularity of pickup trucks and SUVs in the American market.”

Two years ago, Volkswagen announced plans to develop Scout Motors as a fully electric truck and SUV brand to respond to the rising demand for EVs, including Tesla’s Cybertruck.

However, in response to recent trends of declining demand for EVs, Volkswagen has decided to expand its hybrid model offerings within the Scout lineup.

Although Volkswagen is the world’s second-largest automaker, with brands like Audi and Bentley under its umbrella, its market share in the United States stands at just 5%.

Arno Antlitz, Volkswagen’s Chief Financial Officer, stated, “The key to our company’s growth lies in targeting the Midwestern U.S., where there is a strong preference for pickup trucks and large SUVs.”

The company claims the newly unveiled EV models can travel up to 350 miles on a single charge.
