From National Hero to Drug Scandal: The Downfall of Baseball Star Oh Jae Won

Oh Jae Won, a former national team member and professional baseball player, is suspected of violating the Drug Control Act. Mr. Oh was seen attending a pre-trial examination (warrant review) at the Seoul Central District Court in Seocho-gu, Seoul, on the afternoon of May 21st.

Two suspects accused of supplying drugs to former national team member and professional baseball player Oh Jae Won (Aged 39) have recently been referred to trial in custody.

According to the police, on March 2nd, Seoul’s Gangnam Police Station sent two suspects under suspicion of violating the Drug Control Act to custody at the end of last month.

These individuals are accused of supplying drugs such as methamphetamine to Mr. Oh from November 2022. They are known to be business people and entertainment industry workers, respectively.

Mr. Oh is accused of using methamphetamine 11 times from November 2022 over a year, supplied by the two suspects. He allegedly stored approximately 0.4 grams (0.014 ounces) of the drug in a fire hydrant located in the hallway of a friend’s apartment.

Mr. Oh is also accused of receiving 2,242 tablets of Stilnox (a hypnotic containing zolpidem) from nine acquaintances 89 times from January last year to March this year. Additionally, he is alleged to have purchased 20 tablets of Stilnox using a friend’s identity.
