Shohei Ohtani Set to Make World Series Debut Despite Shoulder Injury

Yonhap News

Despite a left shoulder injury, Shohei Ohtani of the LA Dodgers is set to start in Game 3 of the World Series.

According to AP News on Monday, LA Dodgers manager Dave Roberts conveyed confidence regarding Ohtani’s participation in Game 3, stating that if Ohtani is in good condition, there would be no reason for him not to play.

Ohtani injured his left shoulder while attempting to steal second base during the bottom of the seventh inning in Game 2 of the World Series on Saturday.

Roberts added, “Based on the medical team’s assessment and Shohei Ohtani’s range of motion, we believe he will be able to play.”

Leading the series 2-0, the Dodgers will face the New York Yankees in Game 3 on October 29. Walker Buehler will start against Clarke Schmidt.

Meanwhile, Ohtani has had a phenomenal season, batting .310 with 54 home runs, 130 RBIs, and 59 stolen bases. He is the first player in MLB to achieve the milestone of 50 home runs and 50 stolen bases. After signing a $700 million contract with the Dodgers last winter, he is a strong contender for the National League MVP award.
