Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba will discuss cooperation in advanced technologies, including semiconductors and artificial intelligence (AI), with U.S. President Donald Trump at the upcoming summit on Friday, as reported by Kyodo News.

Regarding issues related to China and Taiwan, Ishiba will emphasize the importance of an international order based on the rule of law and oppose any unilateral attempts to alter the status quo. Both nations are expected to reaffirm the significance of peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait.

Moreover, Ishiba is likely to express Japan’s intention to increase imports of liquefied natural gas. This suggests a desire to strengthen bilateral ties through expanded cooperation in various sectors, including security, the economy, and advanced technology.

On Monday, Ishiba attended the House of Representatives Budget Committee and expressed his desire to align views on the importance of U.S.-Japan cooperation in the semiconductor industry.

Later, Ishiba met Masayoshi Son, Chairman of SoftBank Group, at the Prime Minister’s office. He stated that the U.S. and Japan will deepen cooperation in AI to create a more prosperous and secure world.

Ishiba has also invited Trump to visit Japan later this year. Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Iwaya will attend the summit.
