According to the 2024 China Statistical Yearbook, released by the National Bureau of Statistics on Friday, China’s total population now stands at approximately 1.40697 billion, a decrease of 2.08 million from the previous year.
In 2022, China’s population dropped by 850,000 compared to the year before. However, the decline in 2023 more than doubled, signaling an accelerating demographic shift. Only eight of China’s 31 provinces, municipalities, and autonomous regions reported a natural population increase. These regions include Guangdong, Guangxi, Hainan, Guizhou, Tibet, Qinghai, Ningxia, and Xinjiang.
